I have just downloaded Mandrake 10.1. I had trouble installing (no GUI - only console/text) and CD 2 and CD 3 were not recognised and spat out during the install. Eventually tried one of the alternative install methods and a GUI install proceeded nicely but CD 2 is still not recognised and is still being spat out. The system boots OK but some apps such as the word processor and spreadsheet in OpenOffice won't run. I have downloaded CD 2 twice now and burnt the second image at the slowest possible speed on Nero. The checksums are also OK. I am using a Dell Inspiron 1100 with the latest BIOS update (version 32). Incidentally, CD 2 will boot but it then immediately says it does not appear to be a genuine Mandrake CD and is again spat out.
The only way that can happen is from a bad ISO. You say the checksum is fine...my only suggestion is to reburn the CD and just leave your computer as-is during the burn, just move the mouse every so often to make sure the screensaver doesn't kick in. But don't do anything else.
Turns out that I inadvertently downloaded version 10.0 of CD1 and versions 10.1 of CDs 2 & 3. I was looking at the checksum of CDs 2 & 3 because I thought that was where the problem was.
