CD won't load mandriva dvd

Hi, could someone tell a newbie how to get the mandriva 2007 dvd to load in a pc that won't recognize the dvd? I have created a boot disc and can load from floppy, but when the change over to cd occurs all I get is an error message saying that 'your cpu does not support long mode, use a 32 bit distribution'I have tried 32 bit distro's for both mandriva and ubuntu without success. each time I get the same error message. the pc has no other operating system installed at present. any suggestion to how to get the dvd to load would be appreciated. thanks.

Is the CD player capable of reading a DVD?
And secondly, is the Mandriva DVD bootable?
If so, is the device configured in the BIOS to be bootable, or is that not an option?

The Mandriva DVD image creates a bootable disk. You have to use the option 'burn a disk from an image file'. Then you have to set the DVD device as the first boot device in the system BIOS, or at least earlier in line than the HDD.

As GrapefruiTgirl posted this is just a CDROM drive and not capable of reading DVD disk. You will need to download the CD ISOs and burn them to CDR.
