cd drive support in mandrake

just installed mandrake 9.0
the system hangs whenever the cd rom contains a cd and so i cant install some of the extra packages.
some other users have also faced similar problems.
also doesnt mandrake automatically take the intel 754 chipset sound drive.

You have to put the cd in your first cd-rw if you have one. That seemed to solve many problems. Maybe close the tray too before clicking OK.

It's a little difficult to analyse your problem without knowing exactly what sort of machine, processor, ram, os, and vmware software version you are running, but from a shooting-from-the-hip perspective, I would check that your Host is not conflicting with your Guest. The CD drive is considered a 'removeable device' by vmware and in my experience the 'who has control' is usually determined at the time of booting the virtual machine.

Incidentally, do you have vmware tools installed?

As I said in response to your other question today: I will crank up my Mandrake vm, IIRC it has the 2.6 kernel, and try to re-create your problem. and then post the solution.
