Can't install Mandriva 2006 on HP Pavilion

The Mandriva 2006 DVD boots to the startup screen, but after I start the install, the bar goes to about 75% then restarts the computer.

I am working off an HP Pavilion a804n desktop with a restore partition loaded by the manufacturer. I don't know if that is interfering with the install.

it does not cost much,
- run memtest {F2} at boot of cd
- check your dvd was well burnt (iso checksum)
- use a dvd-R rather than RW
- you can boot with
acpi=off noapic nolapic video=vesa
- disable USB and ethernet cards in BIOS
- check HD for bad blocks (install on bad blocks would stop)
- check size of HD (I assume the partition is big enough)

one of these is bound to allow you to install the whole thing.

I would start to check the checksum /iso of the dvd
Can you press esc or get the detailed installed message buttons / progress
so you know on which package the install hangs
