Hello'

When I put a music cd in my cd rom and try to listen to it , no sound is produced through the speakers. i can see xmms running as the digits change, but no sound is produced through the speakers.
very strange and disappointing

I also downloaded OpenOffice (bin file) which I cannot install.

Thank you in advance

yuval

Did you even read anything in the link I posted? You still aren't giving us any information to help us help you. You know more about your computer than we do and you can do the typing and see the results of doing things, we can't do that and very few can read minds (I have succeeded in reading minds twice out of the number of posts you see by my profile, btw). More information on what you have, attempted and the results of that posted here (and other bbs) gets better, quicker answers.

Does the CDs light come on indicating that the CD is running?
Do you have things plugged in correctly, powered up?
Are volumes up and unmuted?
How many other CD players have you tried and have any of them worked?
If you can get it to play any way, that would mean you need to check the configuration of XMMS, inputs, outputs, effects, etc.

First thing, Linux need a small wire running from the cd player to the mother board to get som sound ( this is not necessary for wdz so hardly present)

Second thing can you plug speakers in front cd panel plug and let us know is something is working ?

Send output of command line : dmesg

... will help with your sound card ( what do you use : sound chip/card )

Have you something sound related or nothing ?
