cannot enter graphical interface after NVidia install

Hello everyone,
I cannot enter the graphical login menu after I installed the Nvidia linux driver. I have a Ge-Force 4 MX440. When I installed the driver I had to boot into failsafe because that is the only way I knew to boot without X-server running. The only error when I was installing the driver was that I was in bootlevel(or something like that, I didnt write it down) 1. I said to continue anyway. After that I could still login so I logged in as root and changed the Xorg configuration file just like the NVidia README said to. Then I restarted X-server and All I got was a command prompt. Please help me, as I am completely clueless as to what to do.

You can always get back to a terminal with Ctrl-Alt-F1
and then redo the XF86Config..

There are Mandrake command line tools, but I prefer using XFree86 -configure for a quick workable config file or xf86config if I want to play around with resolutions and screen settings..

Since you are running 10.1 you are not using XFREE86 so the above will not work.

Instead [CTRL][ALT][F1] to get to the text login.

Log in as root then type

service dm stop

Next type

XFDrake and configure you X server.

Test the configuration so you do see the rainbow test screen.

If the screen goes black during the test just wait 12 seconds for it to return.

When you have something that works, save and exit.

And finally

service dm start
