can't load web pages

i can ping my router (192.168.0.1)

i can ping "localhost"

i cant ping anything by "name" (other than localhost).

fresh install, 9.2 on a laptop, wireless (working).

i know this is some simple configuration, that somehow my computer isn't going out to the internet looking for a dns server. i have 4 other computers working fine, so i know it isn't my router configuration.

any ideas?

So to be clear, you can get out on to the net by IP address, but not by domain name?

If that's the case, its obviously a DNS error. Can you use your ISPs DNS as primary, and set up resolv.conf as secondary (or not at all)?

here's the update. i cannot ping an ip address outside to the internet. i tried 3 or 4 including my dns servers and nothing.

here is my setup of resolv.conf

nameserver 151.203.0.85
nmaeserver 151.203.0.85

here is my hosts file

127.0.0.1 localhost

i can ping my router, so i know the wireless aspect is working, and some somewhat fuctional.

any more idea's?

thanks!

I have a few suggestions.

Suggestion 1: Unplug your router, and plug your computer directly into your high-speed modem and re-run drakconnect. I know you say your pretty sure it isn't the router... but let's be sure.

You also mention that you have 4 other computers running. What OS(s)? Do you have a flavour of Linux running? Mandrake specifically?

Suggestion 2: Try disabling your firewall. If you're pretty sure you don't have one running, check anyways. I'm unfortunately not in front of Mandrake right now... but I think its under Configure your computer --> Security --> Firewall. Disable everything so that you are unprotected. Try again.

Let us know what that reveals, and at least if you already have Mandrake as one of your 4 connected computers, etc.
