Can't ssh to MDK 10 w/ Security at higher?
I don't know what the problem is. I can't ssh to MDK box that I just install w/ 10. I set security to "higher" during the install process. I stopped sshd, so that is not it. I did a netstat -a and ssh is listening. What else could be stopping ssh to this machine. Also, it is not replying to pings.
Thanks, Jonin |
If you set your security to higher, your most likely blocking port 22 on the firewall.

What firewall? IPtables has been stopped.

Try setting security to Medium or Low...

This machine is going to be a server that is exposed to the internet. I would prefer to leave it at higher. I am not sure what the difference between med, high, and higher is? Also this machine is not running X and I am not sure how to change the setting from the command line?

Ping is disabled with higher security level.
Instructions to enable are here http://www.daedalus.co.uk/technotes/EnablePing.shtml Sorry cant help with SSH |
Thanks DWNelson. This puts me on the right track I hope. I did not know MDK installed msec. I was a RedHat guy until recently. It looks like I will be able to tweak the msec security levels and it should work. I will let everyone know. I wish there was a place that clearly spelled out what security features are spelled out for each msec sec. level?

The details on the different security levels are in the msec documents folder.
/usr/share/doc/msec-*/security.txt |
I was not able to get it working under msec level 4. I went to msec level 3 and now ssh works.
