I got mandrake 10.1 going on an older computer of mine, so I decided to put it on my newer computer with a Dell 17" flat panel monitor (dell 1703fp). Anyway, after the install I get the boot loader screen and it displays perfectly, however, immediately after I select linux the screen becomes completely garbeled and completely unreadable, I can't even log in because I can't see anything. Its completely out of sync.
I am a newb to this, so I do not know where to start or what to do. Help.
Yep, pulled all the values right from dells website.
Basically what happens is, when I enter the right values everything is just garbled and can't see anything. When I pick some values that are kind of close, I can read everything, but the screen is HUGE, like I'd need 4 monitors to see the whole t hing.
What video card are you using? Have you tried different drivers in xfdrake?
I had this happen when installing on a machine with an Nvidia card and i had to change my xorg.conf file where it says , Driver "nv" to Driver "vesa" for it to work.
There is another thread going at the moment where he had to actually download and install the proper Nvidia driver to get it to work properly.
It is almost certainly a driver issue. At least in as much as the wrong one has been chosen.
Its a Intel build in card, can't remeber the chipset off the top of my head, but the proper package for this is already installed, I select the right driver from XFDrake and nada. I have picked more than a few different drivers to test it out... I need to refer to intel's website tonight, they had additional sets if things didn't go as planned.

If you have tried all the drivers in xfdrake then the intel site may be your only option unless you want to install a cheap video card. That should fix the problem.
