can't read my DVD

I have installed 9.2 on my desktop it has 1cdrw and 1 dvdrw. I can't access my dvd from KDE. I see both icons on the desktop but when I try to view the contents it will only read the cdrw no matter which icon I use. One icon says cdrom and the other says cdrom2. I also have the 6 cd's showing for each drive. I tried changing the values in lilo but it still shows to many drives

Did you check the links to each? cdrom and cdrom2 will be linked to the actual devices themselves.

Also what happens if you try to mount them manually in a terminal or console?

And what exactly are you editing in Lilo? Lilo has nothing to do with your devices, its a OS loader.

let start with the last question . There is a bug that was found in 9.2 that will list 6 extra drives. The fix from Mandrake is to edit LILO by adding hdclun=0 then reboot and that bug will be gone. I tried but it is still there. I looked at the mnt/cdrom and cdrom2 in console with a disk in only cdrom and I see the same files in both!! I am a newbe so I don't know how to check the links.

I know this sounds stupid, but it ,ay be hardware, so I have to ask. are you sure that it's not hardware? Check to make sure that the drives aren't both trying to be master or slave, if that's not the problem, try switching the master and slave.

I just mention this because after years of doing hard ware shit, I was having similar problems and it turned out that both drives were set to master. At which point there was much self-abuse.

I figured it out if anybody is interested. It was the multi cd rom problem that was described in the Mandrake errata. Because I had two cd devices it was little tricky for a newbee to figure out. The drive was dev/hdd!!
