Can't print........

I'm running Mandriva 2005 LE, and the printer was an Epson LQ570+ (dot matrix) which was working fine. Then it just stopped working. Thought it was the printer and found one on sale. Forgot to check the compatibility list because the price was just too good. It's a Samsung ML-2010 monochrome laser printer.

Got the driver off the samsung site. Is there another model/driver I can use instead of the one supplied by the site? Says it's the wrong PPD format to work???

I just want to print. I know I should've checked the compatibility list before buying, but the price was SO right...... Also my old dot matrix still works on other machines (tested at work on windows machines). Don't know why it stopped working on my otherwise faithful linux box at home.

HELP?

I'm not familiar with Mandriva, but if you have CUPS, you can use

http://localhost:631 from your favorite web browser and try all the likely driver options and test print.

If CUPS won't talk to the printer, you're probably sunk. I just had a customer take back a cheap OKI color laser printer for the same reason.

CUPS not responding

Either the parallel port on my PC went, or something's terribly wrong. Downloaded the newest version of CUPS, but nothing works. Everything else works. It's gotta be a setting somewhere stopping me from printing. Just don't know where to start looking. Send a test-print, and it acts like it's going to print(test successfully sent to printer). Then it just doesn't..........

Mandriva sees the printer on USB port #0. Identifies the printer, I'm using a driver suggested here instead of the faulty one from the manufacturer.

At wits end........

Please check the Mandriva hardware compatibility list and LinuxPrinting.
