To run fluxbox and blackbox you generally choose them in the login thing you should be getting when you switch your machine on and its booted up - usually called a chooser or a greeter and displays a username and password prompt. There is usually a list/menu of desktops to use. e.g. gnome, kde, fluxbox.
However Mandrake has an auto login function so you could be missing the bit where you can choose blackbox / fluxbox (the best by a mile)/gnome /kde etc. so simply choose logout from the kde/gnome menu and you will be given a choice of desktops and usernames and things in a little while.
If however you do have the chooser but its not showing fluxbox or blackbox (boo) then you simply add them to the choosers list.
Where that list lives is dependent on the chooser/greeter you are using mostly found in the /etc/X11/kdm/ /etc/X11/gdm/ directories - there has been lots of posts about adding fluxbox to the greeter so I wont repeat it again for fear of getting it wrong.
Okay I will.
My mandrakes all use gdm and in /etc/X11/gdm/Session/ there are lots of files :
BlackBox*
Default@
Enlightenment*
Gnome
GNOME*
IceWM*
KDE*
Sawfish
WindowMaker*
XFce
CDE
OpenLook
But no fluxbox and so we make a new file called fluxbox and in it we have the command to start fluxbox.
Type this into a terminal of your choice and YOU MUST BE ROOT!
cd /etc/X11/gdm/Session/
echo '#!/bin/sh' > fluxbox
echo "exec /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession fluxbox" >> fluxbox
chmod 755 fluxbox
chown root:root fluxbox
now logout and you should see it there in the chooser.
