Can't figure out how to delete something from my trash can. Help please

I have some folders in my trash can that wont go away. I right clicked them to check permissions and it wont let me change anything. So I fired up a Konsole and switch to root then cd'd to the trash can.

I then typed in rm "folderName"

I recieved cant remove a directory.

How do I delete a directory or a folder with a bunch of stuff in it.

Thanks
Kezz

Be careful with this little command, especially if you are using it as root, but rm -rf <directory name> will remove a directory no matter what. Just remember never type in rm -rf / and hit the old enter key...you'll regret it after the shock of what you did hits you.

Like the poster above me mentioned, use

Code:
rm -rf
-r means RECURSIVE which means it will go into each directory and ask you if want to delete files in the directory.

-f means FORCE which accepts 'yes' to everything.

Becareful how you use it! In the future, if you want to delete a file/folder directory without dragging it to the trash can, hold SHIFT+DEL and it will permanently delete the file/folder.
