in a boost of self confidence I tried to change the my display resolution from 1024x768 to "Auto". Since I've got Mandriva 08 installed on a wide screen Toshiba Satellite Pro M40 the display has been kind of "streched out". It says ok, please log in and log out, and when I do so the screen turns black. Now I can't boot the computer in any mode without getting stuck at the same black screen - what am I to do?
I will be deadly thankful for your help since I've got monday's hand-in on the hard drive...
unfortunately nothing happens when I put the defaults back (if you mean by pressing F2 at startup, then putting back the defaults, saving and continue startup?) I just get back to the black screen. If it gives you any clue I don't hear the usual startup sound either, so I presume there is something more to the problem than just the display being blank?
I do feel like a total newbie, but I don't think I get to log in manually? The display turns black before I can do really anything. Now Ive partitioned my hard drive and installed Ubuntu, which also just gives me a blank display after startup? I write this while running Ubuntu from a live CD.
