Best File System For Mandrakelinux?

Hello forum,

Can anyone recommend a good file system to install Mandrakelinux 10.1 onto that can read a NTFS Windows XP partition? I have both Windows XP and Mandrakelinux 9.2 on my dual boot computer and I am in the process of upgrading to Mandrakelinux 10.1. Mandrakelinux 9.2 is presently using the EXT2 file system but it can not read the Windows XP NTFS partition.

I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of each of the different file systems Mandrakelinux 10.1 offers during a clean install.

Can anyone help? Or direct me to an appropriate thread or web link?

Thanks much,
Roy S. Smith

hi,

the actual file system you use for Mandrake will have no bearing over the ability to mount and access your windows ntfs partition.

to browse your ntfs partition, you'll need to create a mount point in your Mandrake filesystem (eg, /mnt/windows), then alter your /etc/fstab file to include details of the windows partition, and finally mount the partition using the 'mount' command. Note that it is not generally recommended to write to ntfs partions from Linux, but reading is OK.

whats your kernel number? I think EXT3 will do the job.
