Well OS is Mandriva 2007 with KDE 3.5 till now I was using the KDE's composite extension to have transparancey effect but I figured it out that because this the sys slows down after a while... now I installed beryl and would like to use that but there is a problem it won't start if I run it from the command line I got the following error:

beryl installation is OK because If i run it as a different user it starts whit out any problems and runs smooth...even if I run beryl with the same user but under Gnome everything is perfect....
I'm pretty sure that that composite extension has something to do with this I just don't know how to solve this issue because I allready turned it out but still get the same error message... Just to try it out I created a test user (running KDE) and beryl started like a charm with that user to, untill I did turned the KDE's transparancy option on again... know even if I turn that off I get the same error message on that test user to.
Basicaly my question is how can I turn that wreally off or wich file should I delete or modify in that way like I was never started that composite estention under KDE?

Never mind... I solved the problem:
I just deleted my /home/.kde and /home/tmp/ksocket-pilatus directorys (of course I did this as root and I loose all my costumizations) and everything is now ok, beryl runs like a charm and is wrealy cool and "refreshing"
One more thing how can I add beryl manager to start up when KDE tarts?

No thats not installed and it's even not in my repos.... Whit that package could I set up the beryl manager to start when KDE starts?

I found the package and installed it...
Wouldn't do the trick if I put a symlink to the /.kde/Autostart directory pointing to /usr/bin/beryl-manager?

Thanks for the hint! I had the same problem, and fixed it by deleting ~/.kde/share/config, so that narrows it down slightly.

I used the instructions here to set up a beryl session that can be selected on login:

I allready cheked the beryl wiki page and folowed their instructions and beryl starts ok but I don't have windows borders untill I don't start beryl manager to... and I want to solve that minor prob. to so I don't have to type at every KDE start the command into a console (or to start the maneger from the menu...)

seeing we're using Mandriva. I guess it is still Linux and it may work, the path is the same.

I'd like to work out how to keep the open-apps on the particular desktop after a reboot.

At the moment they all open on the first desktop and I have to move them to their individual sides of the cube to un-clutter my work space.

It did the trick....

ln -s /usr/bin/beryl-manager ~/.kde/Autostart/beryl-manager
using this command now beryl manager also starts when KDE is starting...
About the windows: I just simply let them where they are and don't close them.... and after the reboot they open on the same desktop where they were before the shutdown...

Unfortunately, editing any KDE panel or desktop settings seems to break beryl again for me! There must be some incompatibility between the KDE settings and beryl in Ubuntu Feisty. I had no such problems with the earlier version, Edgy. Since I don't want to keep default KDE settings, I guess I'll have to settle for no beryl. :-(

I read somewhere you must have no effects set in kde except

In "Control Center, Appearance, Style, effects tab....Rubberband effect: Make Translucent".

Because "beryl looks after the rest"
