Backup/Recovery

I was thinking about ways to backup and restore my Linux system (incase of hard disk failure), one idea I have thought of is using Mandriva online.

The Mandriva online service allows you to list all packages installed on your system in a nice script friendly format, so I was thinking to completely re-install a linux system, you only need to re-install from the distro CDs/dvd, then run a script to urpmi all the packages that mandriva online said you had installed.

So a backup routine would only need to archive the output of https://www.mandrivaonline.com/page....ed&host=myhost

I bet there are other ways to easily get a list of installed packages

any thoughts on this?

Code:
rpm -qa
will list all isntalled packages. There is no need to use Mandrivaonline to do any of this.
