I've looked all over the web for solutions for this problem, and found similar issues, but nothing that really applies to my situation:
I recently installed Mdk 10, and everything works fine, except that my audio cds won't work. And it's not that i can't hear the sound (i've seen solutions to this issue), but they won't play at all. When i browse them, they look completely empty. None of the media players recognizes them either... it's as if i insterted an empty cd-r!
I have 2 CD drives, and tried many different CDs on both of them, none of which worked... one of them was an enhanced cd, with an audio and a data track. in that case, i even got a window asking me whether i want to play it or view the data... but neither of the two worked... in konqueror it look like an empty cd, and all of my media players refused to even recognize that there was a cd in the drive!
i'm really lost as to what to do.... does anyone have any ideas?
Audio aern't mounted, so you usually can't see them with a file manaager. But in kde type "audiocd:/" in the location bar.
Now, I think the reason why your cds aren't playing is because the cdrom drives aren't connected to the motherboard with an audio cable.
You can check this by plugging the speakers into the cdrom drive and trying to play it. I had this problem at first also, the problem with mine was that the cable was plugged in the wrong way round.
Ohhh, I see. Hmm, so I guess the audiocd:/ in konqueror won't work either. And, are you sure the players are looking at the right device/ You can check it with hardrake.
well,mike23,i have the same problem with you!
i managed to rip audio tracks to my hard disk in wav format, but i can't see the files, only the name of it on the hard drive!(no icon,no nothing, but the wav files from the hard disk, play well),but in cdrom drives nothing!like an empty drive..
if you find solution, plz contact me!
we have exactly the same problem, but i have mandrake 9.2
I think I read somewhere that audio cds aren't mounted. They can just be played, that's why they're empty when viewed with a filemanager, except if you use the audiocd:/ in konqueror.
A cd player should be able to see the contents though.
That's why I suggested checking the device.
i finally got the problem solved! well, kind of....
i got a new SATA 160GB HD and when i went to install it, i realized that i didn't have enough power plugs from my PSU to supply all my drives... bummer... anyway, i decided to unplug one of my CD drives, which i don't use very often anyway, and saw that the audio cable was connected to it.... so i just connect it to the other cd drive.
the interesting thing is that even though i had tried playing my cds in both of these drives, when i connected the audio cable to the other one, everything suddenly worked fine! all my audio cds work now without any problems.
however, now i have some problems with my new sata drive... but that's a story for another thread ;-)
