Audacity Recording Problem

Hi
Have installed Mandrva 2006 OK
One Problem with Audacity audio not working .
Adio i/o layer Unable to use Microphone for recording
Input device settings project sample rate errors.
Would like to have Audacity up and runing
Tried Terminal root / dev/dsp and other commands but Audacity not responding.
Is it a software problem with 2006 that can not find all the drivers for Audacity

I don't quite understand what you're asking, but I guess you mean (among other things) that you get an error when you open audacity, or open a file in audacity, saying there's a problem with the i/o layer and that you should try to change the projects sample rate etc.

This is a common error message when starting up audacity without first making sure all sound servers are closed down. check for esd and artsd (you may need root priviledges to shut down artsd)

consider opening audacity like this:
$ killall esd && audacity

the error you got indicates esd was not active / already closed.
Esd is used mainly in gnome, artsd in kde, so try shutting down artsd.

What happens when you open audacity from the commandline (error messages, pop-ups, etc)?

ps auxw | grep artsd

will tell you if arts is running. I have to kill it as root whenever it gives me problems with audacity. As normal user i cannot kill the process.

not sure what's going wrong. It's not detecting your soundcard or the soundcard is busy and so audacity cannot connect to it.
This also happens to me and the sollution is to close down the app or demon that is acessing the soundcard. In my case this can be on e or several of the following:

esd
artsd (when I have used a KDE app)
evolution-sound-server
xmms (if reproducing or paused)
thunderbird (because of the beep after receiving new mail)
There may be other apps that can cause the same problem, but these are the ones I have found to be the culprits on my system.

Shutting them down solved the problems for me every time.

However, I have read it is possible to use audacity in conjunction with artsd.

Check out the entry on sound servers at the this page of the audacity wiki.
