ath_pci install

Trying to get my wireless to work, but keep getting "ath_pci" not installed, and they say can get it from "madwifi.org or "mandriva club" but having no luck finding it and getting it installed so I can us the wireless feature on my laptop. I have downloaded "madwifi-0.9.4" from madwifi and ran "make" as both regular and root, still no "ath_pci"

You undoubtedly have a Broadcom wireless section. Use either the native BCM43xx driver or ndiswrapper to get your wireless running. I have an Acer myself and as of 2008, the native driver actually worked! I have used ndiswrapper for several years. The current Mandriva rpm works well. I recommend installing the driver itself from the CLi, and then using the Mandriva utility for the rest of the setup.

This thread makes for a useful lesson for the rest of us in that it is a good idea to install any available updates for the system as a first step in troubleshooting a problem .
