And I thought Linux was suppose to be a simpler more efficient operating system?

And I thought Linux was suppose to be a simpler more efficient operating system?

I currently got Windows XP pro with MS OFFICE 2000 & buttloads of other little programs on that 366 mhz celeron 384MB SDRAM 13 gig HD -- 5400rpm --- YES IT IS A BIT SLOW to click in and out of files compared to the screamers at the college lab --- but hey, it's not that bad for what I need it to do with my life.

If mandrake 9.2 and the comparable office application software is gonna choke it to a snails pace? Doesn't that kind of kill the school of thought that insists Linux is simpler, more stable, free from defects of complications?

why is it so slow?

Let me make this clear. I don't intend to design CAD or CGI or play THE latest greatest games on a LINUX machine JUST YET.

I just want to use it as a much more efficient browser and downloader, a very secure file storage unit, some application software, and to be defiant of ever feeling I've ever spent more money than I needed to spend on software EVER, EVER AGAIN.

I've paid my dues and had enough.
