AMSN , gaime, and Licq in Mandrake

Hey,

I was wondering, what services have to be on inorder for AMSN, Gaim, and licq to work?

(I'm running Mandrake.)
Becose I just can't seem to get a connection with the servers.

in Gaim, in the Preferences box, the AOL page is set as default, I'm assuming I have to edit this to some version of MSN.COM?

thanks for you time

I have never used licq or gaim, but if you can post here, amsn should work.
If you are behind a proxy, you might try (in amsn) going to Preferences - > Connection and try enabling "Connect using HTTP method"

see,

I can't even start the programs.

I just get som error line about some line in the code, and something about the server ...

So I'm thinking that I might have to have a specific service running... right?

Hi,

Wrong!

By default, Gaim (which is included in Mdk 9.2) or AMSN (which you obviously downloaded and installed) should work without setting anything particular in your Mandrake Linux (of course besides having the network working and taking care of proxies...).

For GAIM, you have to download the latest version 0.75 if you want it to work with MSN. For AMSN, I assume that you have version 0.83 or higher. In any case, they should at least execute and their main window should be displaying.

well,

I got the gaim to start, but in order to connect to the MSN server, I have to set the right info in the "Options"

and as default the Yahoo or whatever was set.

Hi,

Of course, you have to create an account and indicate that you want to use MSN. Anyhow, make sure to update your GAIM to 0.75.

well I have an account, I was talking about the ports and stuff.
that's what I get in my Options menu.

but in anyevent,

I was told I needed an SSL client.

so, I'm working on that right now...

I'm assuming if you get the latest versions of your distribution, that the installation and setup of these programs are pretty straight forwards?

also, what services need to be running inorder for Gain to work?

Hi,

I am not sure since I never checked this because everything worked fine from the start. Sorry!

As mentionned in a previous reply, GAIM works right away "out from the box" on Mandrake Linux 9.2 (except for MSN for which you just need to install version 0.70 and above because Microsoft changed something about the MSN protocol). With AMSN, the program updates itelf to get the updated MSN protocol.
