Greetings all! I'm giving mandrake 10.1 a try and i'm having problems getting my remote X11 apps to work. (no problems on RH 9)

Basically i run xhost + then telnet to the remote server and run export Display=myip:0.0

I've been trying it with xterm and i get--- Xt error: Can't open display: myip:0.0

I have the firewall and iptables turned off currently.

I have also tried just at my local machine running xhost + and setting my local display to my IP and running xterm and i get the same error message.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. I love mandrake 10 so far. If i can't get this to work them i'm back to RH 9. Somebody please help me!

try running

export DISPLAY=ip:0

instead of

export DISPLAY=ip:0.0

The better (and more secure) way is to use ssh. Make sure sshd is running on the remote and run
'ssh -X user@remote' .

Thanks for your help. I figured it out. I know SSH is the better way but it did not work either. The problem ended up being in my hosts file. I changed my 127 address to the default rather than what the mandrake wizard set it up as. Thanks for your help.
