It would help if you could tell us which Mandriva release you are using when requesting help. Also such information as the KDE release, or any other information that may be pertinent to your issue.

As a first step, try running okular from a Konsole window, then paste any error messages here. Just out of curiosity, after removing Okular, did you remove the /home/ernie/.kde4/share/apps/okular directory (and all it's contents)? If not try doing so, then re-install Okular. If that fails, remove Okular and the above mentioned directory again, then also remove /home/ernie/.kde4/share/config/okularrc (the Okular configuration file), then re-install Okluar again.

FWIW, I am using Mandriva 2010.1 ("Spring") x86_64 with the default KDE-4.4.3, and Okular-0.10.3 is working fine here.

I'm using mandriva-linux-free-2010.0-i586.....
I tried to run okular in konsole. Following error obtained...

kdeinit4: preparing to launch /usr/lib/libkdeinit4_klauncher.so
kdeinit4: Communication error with launcher. Exiting!
KCrash: Application 'okular' crashing...
sock_file=/root/.kde4/socket-localhost.localdomain/kdeinit4__0
Warning: connect() failed: : Connection refused
KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.

If everything else is working properly, you should post a but report on Mandriva's Bugzilla. If the KDE bug reporting utility launches, also post a bug with KDE.

One or the other should have some solution to help you, or you may see a fix in the Mandriva repositories soon.
