Adding menus

I'm trying to add menus to the Application menu but it seems that they are not added. I'm guessing these are root problems but I can't find a way to do it as root

any suggestions ?

Just run the Mandriva Control Center, enter roots password when asked and search for the entry for editing menus.

Well, "menu configuration" (or menudrake) is the tool that enables you to edit menus on Mandriva and thats the one I was referring to.

Well actually I meant that I have found the menu STYLE configuration. I don't need to change the style , I need to change/add sub-menus and the such.

Can you please be more specific about the whereabouts of the configuration option you speak of ?

thx.

I don't use Mandriva these days, so can't be really more specific. You could try running a terminal -> enter "su" -> run the command "menudrake".

It seems like menudrake was deprecated in Mandriva 2007. Once I find out what replaced it, I will post back.

This works in KDE. I do not know about other environments.

[I]ALT+Click]/I] the menu.

Select Menu Editor in the pop up menu.

Expand the branch of the menu tree (left) you want to edit to expose sub menus and / or their contents. Navigate to the location in the menu tree where you want to add a menu.

Click New Sub Menu in the tool bar (top) ...

In Gnome:

ALT+Click the Applications menu

Select Edit Menus

HTH,

adding and changing sub-menus

Ok this is my first shot at helping, but will give it a try!

click on the star. select one of the menu/sub-menu items and right click.

A list will open up that includes edit menu. Select this.

This gets you to the KDE menu editor. You may change, add, and delete menu items as you wish.

Select file then new menu item or new sub menu item. You will be required to know the command for running the program.

Hope this helps,

Michael

And in Gnome click >Applications >System >Configuration >Other >Menu Layout. This will give you the opportunity to add & remove applications to your hearts content, as a normal user. It is actually quite straight forward to use too - when adding a New Item the Browse button takes you straight to /usr/bin/ which is where most if not all applications live.
