A tiny display problem

My Mandriva 2009 works fine. However, there is a display problem. This has to do with the graphic card.

When the computer starts, it is imperative to write your login name and the password.

I can't write the login name and the password for about 3 minutes.

A message comes and cover the tiny space where I write the login name and the password.

Code:

Not optimum mode
    Recommended mode
      1680 X 1050
          60 HZ

The above message lasts for about 3 minutes.
I just have to wait for about 3 minutes to login.

I tried in vain to configure display by clicking the following:

1. Configure your display
2. Display

It does not have the above resolution.

My screen is Samsung SyncMaster 226BW.

Under hardware, you can select 'setup the graphical server'.
It says the monitor is Samsung SyncMaster 226BW.
The graphic card is NVIDIA GeFORCE 6100.
Resolution is Automatic.
I can change the resolution because there are about 7 or 8
different resolutions to choose from.

It does not have the recommended values.

How can I solve the problem?

I solved the problem.
I don't need help from our friends.

Gins,

It may be really helpful if you could please post the solution to your problem. Other people may well be experiencing the same issue, and there's nothing worse than seeing that someone else has had the same problem without saying how to solve it.

Robert.

Thanks rjlee

1680 X 1050
The above resolution was not on the bunch of available resolutions.

I selected several other resolutions.

Some of them worked fine; I mean I didn't get the unwanted message.
However, the letters were small and part of the screen was empty.

Now I selected 832 X 624 resolution.
All the letters are big. However, a web page covers the entire area.
So I selected the above.

No strange message comes to the screen.
However, letters are unusually large.

The other solution may be to buy a new graphic card and try.
I will try it when time permits.

It is useless to talk to Samsung about this problem.
They know nothing about Linux or rather open source.
