50 USD Commercial Mandrake can't print !

Yesterday I've bought a MandrakeLInux 10.1 PowerPack.
Everything was perfect, untill I decided to check printing.
Than I realized that my Linux don't print.
I've downloaded Gimp-Print, I've configured CUPS and my system sees my Epson Stulus Photo 890 printer. It can even chceck amount of ink in cartridges!
It can make Nozzle chceck...
...but it can't print even the shortest text
Windows can, and Fedroa Core could also.
Now I'm thinking about returning to Fedora.

Can anyone halp me?
Please.

Have you configured your printer in the hardware section of the mandrake control centre? Just open the control centre by clicking on the "configure your computer" in the main menu, type in your root password when asked, then when the control centre opens click on the hardware button.

You should then click on the printer section and the wizard will run you through the setup.

Cheers

First, how much you paid for the CD's is irrelevant.

From my point of view your saying... I paid so much so I DEMAND an answer.

Guess what, everyone who answers here does it just as an attempt to be helpful... so the above is pointless.

Next, you may have selected both LPR and Cups services which conflict with one another.

You should uninstall BOTH... then set up the printer via the MCC.

E.G. as root

rpm -e `rpm -qa | grep LPR`

and

rpm -e `rpm -qa | grep cups`

To uninstall both.

Then go into the MCC and set up the printers again. It will tell you something about needing to install the software and it will go ahead and do so.

1. I don't DEMAND anything. I just warn anyone who thinks that commercial linux is prefect. It isn't !

2. Do you think, that i should uninstall CUPS?
Hmmm, I'll try...

Re: Perfect

Heh, neither is Winblows... oops there goes another security hole...

Re: Cups

Do both of the above commands to uninstall Cups and LPRng if they are installed.

Also remember that cups must know the machine's "name" so if you have not configured a machine name in the MCC setup for eth0 set up a name there.

Then use the MCC to set up your printer. If required it will re-install cups.

I've uninstalled CUPS, and deleted manually LPR (rpm -e don't work).
I also run MCC and it found my printer, but there is still no way to print anything.
I also discovered something:
MTink (after pressing "check nozzle") can print test page.
Really strange ;/

What do you mean "rpm -e don't work."

It HAS to work, so to speak unless something is VERY wrong with your system.

Also have you tried changing the BIOS settings to EPP instead of say ECP?

I can try some changes in BIOS, but I don't think it can help.
Why?
Becouse Windows prints perfectly with the same BIOS, and my former linux - Fedora II also printed well.

I've got an epson c40ux and sometimes it refuses to print especially after running mtink. What I do to get it working again is to use the CUPS admin tool in the menu under System>Configuration>Printing to stop the printer then restart it.
