5 button mouse quits

I have mandriva 2006 and firefox 1.5. When I do a clean install all the buttons on my usb mouse work scroll and the center for tabs in Firefox. the thumb button works to backup in Firefox and the pinkie works as forwards. After a reboot or two it reverts to a three button mouse. Has anyone experienced this issue as well? What is the resolve?

I have a 7-button Intellimouse explorer, and had to setup everything. I read through the arch wiki, and assuming that Mandriva uses xorg 7 or greater - you should be able to do the same.

Hope it works.
The only problem I have found is with the middle button. It doesn't want to close tabs in Firefox.
