the exact error message is:
Quote:
The script will now compile the agpgart module and DRM kernel modules
for your machine.

Press ENTER to continue or CTRL-C to exit.

Compiling new agpgart module...

ERROR: AGPGART module did not compile

Compiling DRM module...

ERROR: Kernel modules did not compile

The DRI drivers can not be installed without the latest kernel modules.
Installation will be aborted. See the dri.log file for information on
what went wrong.
And when I checked the file dri.log, I found this:
Quote:
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdv/build SUBDIRS=/home/zouzou/Download/dripkg/agpgart-2.0 modules
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.17-5mdv/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [default] Error 2
Makefile.linux:151: *** Cannot find a kernel config file. Stop.
what should i do now?

Sorry for the late reply. You do not have the build files for building kernel modules, which suggests to me that you do not have the kernel sources installed. What does rpm -qa | grep kernel give?? For example i get:
[root@d44psx ~]# rpm -qa | grep kernel
Quote:
kernel-2.6.17.6mdv-1-1mdv2007.0
ndiswrapper-kernel-2.6.18-rc4.4mdvsmp-1.21-1mdv2007.0
kernel-source-2.6.17.6mdv-1-1mdv2007.0
If you do not have the kernel source installed, then do urpmi --fuzzy kernel-source. This will give a list of sources to install. The kernel you are running is also quite old (2.6.17-5), I would recommend updating this using URPMI.

I know that the kernel is old, i downloaded kernel-2.6.19-2, but didn't know how to install it? i checked the readme file but it was confusing. so, i tried to install the patches, also found it confusing.
any ideas on how to go about doing both of these tasks?

Yes i do know how to do that but I think that it is unnecessary to install a custom kernel for the task you want to achieve. What i would suggest is to simply upgrade to a newer stock kernel that will be in a Mandriva repository accessible with URPMI. So configure URPMI with http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ and then do URPMI kernel kernel-source. This should give you a newer kernel and kernel-sources with which to build the graphics drivers.
