2009.1 nividia and 3d desktop

Hi,

I just install 2009.1 x86_64 free version. KDE4

I've got a Nvidia GeForce 9600 512MB card, with the drivers installed.

I cant seem to get the 3D desktop effects to work. In the control center it just says "Your system does not support 3D effects", but it did work when I used the One livecd.

I saw this post: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...esktop-723668/ but didn't really help

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, like some extra packages that needs to be installed?

Thanks in advance.

OK, I've managed to solve this by running

Code:
sudo nvidia-xconfig
and restarting x-server. Pretty obvious actually.

Also encountered some weird compiz behaviour and it seems lots of people are having problems with title bars disappearing etc.

I switched between several themes and it seems that some themes just dont play well with fuzion. Go figure.

I actually tried installing the driver provided by nvidia. Went to console login and ran it, but the interface for the install program was all screwed up.

I only started encountering problems, when I moved to x86_64 free, was previously using the livecd and everything worked perfectly fine.

Anyway, the distro driver seems ok now.

cheers, j
