10.0 CD install problem Kernel 2.6.3
 

Guys, I need some help. I been batteling this out all week.

Starting off, I have the issue of not being able to install Mandrake 10.0 with my CD. I get the "No cd driver found" issue. I've check "chksum" my files and veridied my CDs. Using disk 1 or 2 give the same effect. Only thing I can do is #alt1. With that, linux installs, but with 2.4.25 kernel.

Forgot, I'm running a Toshiba Satellite 2515CDS. The pentium version.

Ok, I can run linux 10.0 with kernel 2.4.25, but when I boot up my PCMCIA driver freezes. I had to shut this service down to boot properly. However, all my network ability goes through my cards. Now, Kernel 2.6.3 (and up) shouldn't have that problem, and this goes to the next problem.

Trying to use the rpm ability of linux, I loaded kernel 2.6.3-7 and when I reboot, it panics.

Seems, any way I go, I can't load the kernel. I would just put the CDs on the harddrive, but the drive is only a 4GIG.

Can some please help me with either reinstalling the linux, or upgrading the 2.6.3-7 kernel and is supposted to be running with mandrake 10.

Ok, you´ve verifiied the checksum of the iso you have and it matches the one from Mandrake so we know the iso is good. When you burned the iso, did you do so at the max speed for your burner? If so, I´d suggest making another copy of CD1 and burning at 8 or 10x. When I´ve run into problems with CD´s not booting or producing errors, a slower burned copy has always fixed it for me. You could use a RW if you don´t want to waste an R.

You have to make an initrd or on the compile of the kernel disable the support for initrd and make your harddrive "Y".. With your PCMCIA I don't know what's wrong.. try to see the /var/log/

I have a 3 copies of these CDs now. 2 sets burned at 4X and 1 set on 2X. All the CD check fine. I also found that some cdroms just don't work and I would have to replace it. This doesn't work for me since this is a laptop, with a built in cdrom :(...

Could you please explain how I would go by this? I'm a newbie to this stuff. I used linux back at Mandrake 7 (Might have been 6) with no problems at that time, but that was the last.

You said, make a initrd or compile the kernel without it. How would I go by this? it came with its oen initrd and I linked it to my initrd. The rpm did that before me as well.

Well guys, I'm downgrading to 9.2 to see if things start working better. I've just ordered a Inspirion 9100 and will put 10 on that one. I think I saw what was needed for the kernel and I'll play with it a bit later. I just think that my laptop is soo old that it can't take 10.
