[Boot-Problem] LE 2005 DVD x86_64
Hello, guys! :)
I'm talking about the DVD-ISO-version mentioned above in the 64-Bit-edition. Installation (meanwhile it's the 2nd time, I've installed LE 2005, 'cause the problem still existed after some changes and then I thought (Windows-like ;)) a new installation would help) ran perfectly: 100GB were given to Linux only (Windows was deleted since the 2nd installation :D). But then (at the 1. boot after installation was completed ;)) it went *really* bad: VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem). Red Hat nash version 4.1.12mdk starting Loading jbd.ko module Loading ext3.ko module Mounting /proc filesystem Mounting sysfs Creating device files Mounting tmpfs on /dev Starting udev Creating root device Mounting root filesystem with flags noatime mount: error 6 mounting ext3 flags noatime well, retrying without the option flags mount: error 6 mounting ext3 well, retrying read-only without any flag mount: error 6 mounting ext3 pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) faild: 2 umount: /initrd/sys failed: 2 umount: /initrd/proc: failed: 2 Initrd finished Freeing unused kernel memory: 220k freed Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= to the kernel. Please help me - my last Mandrake-version (it was 9.2) ran perfectly and now Mandriva won't?!? :'( |
Did you try selecting the other choices from the bootloader list?
|
Yes, of course.
All (normal linux, linux-nonfb and even failsafe) will result in this messages... :( BTW: What does "nonfb" mean?! |
non frame buffer
|
Oh, ok... - Is it possible that you explain me what this means? :)
Sorry for that but although I'm not new to Linux, I'm also not very informed when it comes to the "insider-information"... ;) And could you also help me with the kernel panic-problem? That would be *really* nice of you, because I'd like to use Mandriva and I *need* it... ;) :D Kindly regards, Martin :) |
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=340411 will tell you what the frame buffer does. (I Googled it.) I use the 32 bit edition of 2005LE. I've never ran into that problem. A web search for "not syncing: No init found. Try passing init= to the kernel" also brings up a thread here at LinuxQuestions.org. You might try searching this site. If that doesn't tell you and no one else can help, you might as well try another distro.
|
Hey, Adam! :)
Firstly: Thank you for the information about the FB... ;) Secondly: I'd like to thank you a lot again for the help about my init-problem! :) But the thread, you've said I should google for, says I must have the "CONFIG_EXT3_FS=y" - but where should I write this?!? How to create the "/sysroot/initrd"? And what should I write inside that file?!? As always: any help would be great... ;) :) Regards, Martin... :) |
If you can not boot up, you probably won't be able to edit any files without a live CD (Knoppix, etc.). I would try another distro.
|
What about the rescue-mode of the CD? - I can mount the HDD-installation there?!?
And another distro? - I'd like to use Mandriva... :( |
I have EXACTLY the same problem. It just seems strange, as the install "seemed" to go so well. Too bad no one has a fix.
|
Well, today in the late afternoon, I've decided to jump over to Feodora Core - the reason is simple: MANDRAKE was *really* well done but since MANDRIVA, well, it just went a bad way... :(
Almost the name ("Mandriva") sounds more like "Mandrill" (= AFAIK an ape ;)) than a serious distro... - That's why I'm going to download Feodora and bringing that distro to the limits of 64-Bit... ;) :D Anyway, thanks a lot, Adam, your help was great, although the problem still exists... :-/ |
Any resolution yet... I see this on LE2005 i586
has anyone found a resolution to this issue yet other than switching to Fedora...
I really want to stay w/ Mandriva/Mandrake... Is there a newer build... maybe the Mandriva-Linux-2005.1-DVD.i586.torrent (2006 beta - i586)??? Desperate for a solution |
AFAIK, no solution was found (even at other forums not.. :()
Anyway, you should try Gentoo - Feodora has not that much 64Bit-support.. ;) And last, but not least ;), we were/are talking about the x86_64-version, so i586 (and even i686) would be not what you're looking for.. ;) :) |
86x64 Mandriva 2005 LE Support Install Problems
I have exactlythe same problem on my new nx6125 Turion 64 laptop
http://images.linuxquestions.org/que...cons/icon8.gif Angry Been driving me up the wall ,,,,, do not want to have to jump to suse 9.3 prof ,,,, but may have to soon. This means cancelling my Mandriva subscription ! Installion goes great but on boot the system fails to mount /root after successfully mounting proc sysfs tmpfs mount: error 6 mounting reiserfs flags notail .....etc etc pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 umount /initrd/sys failed: 2 umount /initrd/proc failed: 2 initrd finished Freeing unused kernel memory: 220k freed Kernel panic - not syncing: No init found The 32 bit works a treat ,,,,, must be a driver issue in the 64bit kernel?!? It also fails using ext3 I suspect it has something to do with the usual crappy ATI Driver support for the Xpression 200M Chipset Anybody any ideas pls let me know |
Yes, I got an idea: switch to Gentoo 2005.1 - they got 64-bit-support, everything will be compiled especially for *your* system-configuration and building your own kernel is very simple - so initrd's aren't needed anymore! :D
