vlc 2.7 mageia 3 no video only sound vlc win ok

Neither VLC or SMplayer can open any video files in Linux Mageia 3. I installed VLC 2.7.0 tainted. Cannot install Libavcodecs54-1.1-5.1 tainted due to unsatisfied due to libvo-aacenc.so.0

I can only view video files in VLC & SMPlayer in Playonlinux.

If I uninstall libvo I loose Skype.
I get the following with VLC in Mageia
No suitable decoder module:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "h264". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

Hi, I sovled this same kinda problem with my system, You probably have also by now,

But just in case anyone looks for an answer, this is what I did

My system is usually from the unstable/development cycle, Cauldron,

But currently I am upto mga3 release and updated.

At first I could not play mpeg movies or flac tunes. (this could be particular)

I updated the repos and made sure to select all but debug and testing.

Now I was able to select the plugins for my players, mplayer needs mencoder and avidemux is needed too.

gstreamers ugly collection, vlcś plugins, ffmpeg and dvdcss-devel. Oh, and lame.

hope this helps others with the mga3 install.

vlc says no h264

I cannot install ffmpeg due to newer versions. I downloaded ffmpeg standalone but do not know where or how to install it.

Does anyone know where to put these files?
