Mageia 3 Optimus support

Hello all,

I just have quick question. I love Mageia, but I'm not using it due to the lack of support with Optimus technology...

I would like to know if Mageia 3 will have support to this technology.

Thanks a lot.

is that optimus a handheld?

or a nvidia laptop...

Optimus is a technology which saves battery life by changing the graphics driver: http://www.nvidia.com/object/optimus_technology.html

Most of the new laptops come with this new technology...

Nvidia didn't provide support to Linux, so the community developed its own one: http://bumblebee-project.org/

There would be a way to install it in any Linux distro, but installing it from source is a nightmare (I've already tried). So, for some distros it is easier to install, as you can see from the Bumblebee project.

I would like to know of Mageia 3 will have a Bumblebee package on its repositories.

Thanks!

A simple search (search engines are your friend) shows a bug listed for Mageia 3 on this subject. Also a fairly simple work around using a Mandriva package from 2011 from the open suse repo.

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1748

This was a bug from 2011. I would be checking the Mandriva repos (media) to see what they have.

Mageia also has a very good forum that has a number of folks on it that have years of experience with Mandrake and Mandriva.

The bumblebee package appears in the Release Candidate for Mageia 3. Hope it helps; I'd love to hear how it works.
