I like Mageia. Some thoughts...

I installed the 64 bit version and was just amazed at the speed of things.

Dolphin is also very nice and up to date.

At this time, I am unable to update the installation. It just won't work. Also want to mention that the interface is a bit confusing but I was able to figure it out.

I had 7 or more tabs open in Firefox when the screen suddenly went black. In a second or two, it came back at the log in screen. No harm done but I wonder what caused it.

I tried to download the latest version last night, but it failed. May have to purchase a disc.

What happens when you try to update? How are you trying to update? Which Mageia release are you running? What are your computer specs?

Here's what happened when I tried to update:

opened the pkg mgr
updated the package list
update the media/select all/update

Unable to update medium; it will be automatically disabled.

Errors:
...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 22
...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 22
...retrieving failed: curl failed: exited with 22

When the pop up window appeared in the bottom right corner of the screen,
I clicked on update packages. A screen came up asking for password.
Then I clicked on update all. Then update (or whatever it said)
It worked for a while and I got this...

Installation failed, some files are missing:

You may need to update your urpmi database.

Try to continue anyway?

Remove your current mirror and add a new one.

The Graphical Way:
==================

Open package manager--> Configure media sources for install and update--> Select all the entries then click remove.

Goto File--> Add a specific media mirror--> Click Full set of sources.

Now goto File--> update--> Select All, then click Update.

Click ok to go back to previous screen, then click Update your system.

The Commandline Way: (You can copy and paste these commands one at a time to the terminal)
===================

Open a terminal, type su press enter. Type in your root password, press enter. Now type:
Code:
urpmi.removemedia -a
Now type:
Code:
urpmi.addmedia --distrib --mirrorlist '$MIRRORLIST'
Now type:
Code:
urpmi.update
and finally type:
Code:
urpmi --auto-select
