Can I be the first!Oh Yea! Mageia 1 great for 6 months then....
only the Background and the Window Manager would work with Xfce. I removed Task Xfce and it worked fine until I rebooted and then Firefox would not open and none of the File Managers would work anymore. LXDE got goofy as well so I reinstalled. I tried Xfce again but it would crash without opening a Crash report, the printer could not be found to install the driver as well. Maybe it does not have a crash reporter. When I tried to Open Xfce manually the reply was about a dbus error.
I edited out the Update Issue. I was not using MCC correctly.Sorry! So my question would be Is there a specific update that addresses this problem? Thanks in advance! |
Is this bug there in the Mageia 2 release too? You may want to give that a spin.
(I probably won't be able to assist you with the bug.) If you can, then please do report any problems you encounter at [ http://bugs.mageia.org/ ]. Sincerely, Aouie |
Thanks for the Reply!
I have a 4th attempt to use Mageia 1 ,this time with Gnome 2.32.1 with sucess so far. I don't have a lot of faith in reporting bugs and I'm going to be moving on to Gentoo soon but for a throw it on system to rely on basics needs I'm still biased towards a Mandrake Fork. I'm going to stick it out with Mageia 1 and Gnome 2.32.1 for a while. :hattip:

If I remember correctly, Mageia was moving away from xfce, and had offered LXDE as an alturnative.
LXDE like OpenBox is capable of running kde(qt) apps as well as gnome(gtk) apps. Like you I aspire to managing other distros like LFS, Gentoo and slakware, but Mageia gives me all I really need and most of what I want. If I can't get a package from the repo, I compile and install from source. I feel geekish, but it's just white-hat hacking (hacking, in the traditional sense) Stick around, Mageia's progress, IMHO, has outstripped Mandriva's and they're on track with a system that's fits nearly everyone nicely. Cheers, see you around the posts! Regards Glenn <edit> although I am not qualified, By no means do I intend to detrack from the experience that I have gained with Mandriva, I have lerned a whole lot, that I could not access on other installable distros at the time, and I'm still learning. I'm still running a custom firewall and squid as a local proxy for my connection. Aspiring towards a "pseudo" realtime kernel (play-back while record) for music production, which is why I started with gnu/linux in the first place, and been learning linux ever since, lol!</edit> |

I am running with Xfce on Magia2.
No problems so far. I wouldn't want to go with Lxde. Just doesn't blow my skirt up at all. Much prefer an Open Box install with the Xfce panel and Thunar. You can run any KDE packages on with any DE. |
