Personally I like this idea posted in General: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...=contributing. If Jeremy did that maybe I'd become a contributing member again. Jeremy what do you think?

To become a "LQ Crack Monkey".. I really don't get it, your complaining that we don't offer anything for contributing and you could have gone and bought a game instead but now you'd pay 35 bucks to change your title? Seems a little off to me but that's your perogative.
Why not suggest that then instead of complaining? Jeremy usually doesn't browse the General forum for actual suggestions.. Probably one reason we have this forum.

LinuxQuestions.org is administered and run by Jeremy. Jeremy has to pay to keep the domain name(s). Jeremy has to pay to travel to conventions and the like. Jeremy has to pay all the incidental bills that arise from running a large popular website. LinuxQuestions has survived and continues to do so because Jeremy pumps in his own money to the site. Without donations, this site would die. It really is as simple as that.
Contributing and also clicking the ads brings in revenue to the site meaning that Jeremy doesn't have to decide whether or not he shuts the site down. If you don't want to contribute, don't. If you feel that Japanese and Anime music needs your money more then donate there.
And you really are being inconsistent. You say you won't contribute because you don't get enough perks, but then say you might because you want an extra title to be added.
Again - contributing is entirely voluntary. If contributing to a site which helps so many people with their technical problems offends you because you are not getting enough out of it personally for your money, then stop contributing. I also notice that Japan-a-Radio doesn't offer extra functionality for a donation - we do.

Let me also express that threatening to never donate again just really doesn't matter.. cause well, you didn't have to donate in the first place. But let me say its well appreciated when anyone does..
Regards.

Speak for yourself trickykid, you're a mod and not even you're a contributing member.

But Trickykid donates a lot of time to the site and also travels to conventions to represent LQ at his own expense and on his own time.

Hmm.. yeah well, ours (as mods) doesn't show up but if you really want to see how much I've spent in regards to this site, let me count how much it is:
I've Contributed probably close to about 50 bucks by donations or more, can't remember all of them over 3 and a half years..
Trip to San Francisco for LWE August 2003 not even counting food costs to eat, I'll just calculate the costs of getting there and what it costs to stay there to help promote the site, travel expenses etc.:
Gas: $300
Hotel: $540
Trip to New York for LWE January 2004, same goes for this trip as the other one, traveling expenses:
Plane Ticket: $425
Hotel: $200
Taxi Fares: $35
And not including the merchandise I've bought as well, totalling about $35 or more. The frosty mug itself was 20 bucks...
So lets see by actual estimate of adding all this together.. comes to about $1585.00 out of my own pocket. That's not including the countless hours spending here helping others, moderating, etc.
I'm not trying to brag, all of this is my own choice to do, I'm not forced to do it but some sites pay their moderators, some have them as full time jobs. I ask nothing in return of Jeremy, I'm happy to help this site as much as I can and afford without whining about what I get and don't get.
Cheers.

You might want to start thinking a little more carefully about what you say, and who you say it to. This isn't a threat or anything, just to remind you about manners and nettiquette.
And besides you have no idea if drew has donated money to LQ, however much he has donated, his title would remain "Moderator" as that is more important to the site.

I would only go if it were an all expenses paid trip, the way big companies do it.

I refer you to the previous few posts. As you know, LQ is not a big comapny - it is a non profit website run by one person. And big companies only send you on all expenses paid trips if you actually work for them.
If you want to go to a convention, go to a convention.

Trickykid I don't think you understand, I'm very poor in that I just barely make over minimum wage.
