This may be slightly trivial, but whenever I post or someone else has posted in Windows 8.1 (with ID Windows NT 6.3) and Windows 10 (Windows NT 10.0), it gives me the icon for having posted in Windows NT/2000. I'd figure I'd point it out in case no one else has before.
For those who care about the OS indicator, wouldn't a generic Windows icon be sufficient? On a Linux forum, how important is the exact version of Windows someone is using?
Although I disagree, if Microsoft's vision of Windows 10 being the only version of Windows comes into fruition, then eventually all Windows OS indicators will be that same thing.
The OS icon has two purposes:
1) Advertise one's OS.
2) Let other forum members know which OS the poster uses, and therefore, potentially let others know the person is familiar with that system. If this were a Windows forum, which version of Windows a person uses would be significant ... but on a Linux forum?
It can be slightly significant alone from the fact if the question is about dual booting or interoperability, it can help us determine which version of Windows to work with.
Also, even though this is a Linux forum, about (per Jeremy's end of year LQ stats blog) half of all the users on this site use Windows making tracking versions of Windows is still somewhat significant.
Distribution: M$ Windows / Debian / Ubuntu / DSL / many others

I agree. The feature is there already. I say it should be extended.
That said, it doesn't always detect Linux distros correctly either. Often, it just says "Linux"
I guess the user agent doesn't always tell the whole story.
I once asked about distribution detection - it seems Ubuntu and its derivatives have a user agent specifically for Ubuntu, while other distros just say "Linux". Some users at LQ set up their user agents to include their distro, and thus their distro appears in the OS indicator space.
