Why not have a Distro of choice sticky in the newbie forum?
Looking at the newbie forum, There seems to be an aweful lot of " Which distro should I start with " threads. Why not have a sticky in the newbie section with a brief description of the top 5 distros that are newbie friendly and why they are, and maybe have a brief description of other distros that are popular but not so newbie friendly and why they could be a choice later down the road?
Well I know that is subjective but I think most would agree that mandrake and suse would be good choices for newbies. It doesnt have to be saying to use this disto or another. I just meant maybe point out what the benefits of the most popular distros are so that a newbie looking for a distro could have more of an idea of what distro to possibly start off with instead of having to post the question.
I've actually stopped reccomending Mandrake and SuSE, and now reccomend Slackware to the geekier friends of mine... I think it's actually easier to use.
Also, we have no way of knowing that the sticky threads are even read by our members. In Linux-General, for ages now, we have the using rpms/tgz and source sticky (I forget the title) and the questions still come up.
