Thumbs up Why is the thanks button missing in some threads?

Particularly here.
Only place I've noticed it missing, but I haven't looked around very much on this. The first thread I found when "searching for similar posts" to my previously concieved thread about there not being one at all, DID have a thanks button. SO I have revised this thread before posting, for accuracy.

Just wondering. Thanks!

You will find that any posts more than about a year old do not have a thanks button.

guesstimate:
It might be the age of the thread. Either the "thanks" button wasn't around yet, or the thread has reached a point of archival where it's no longer an option.

The little icon in the corner that tattles on me when I'm using my Windows box isn't present on my older posts.

Edit:
Ugh. I've gotta start refreshing tabs before replying. Me too me too me too.

Don't forget that the "general" forum also has the thanks button deactivated. It won't increase your post count either, for that matter.

I'm talking about the General forum in the "Non-*NIX" section, not Linux-General.

Hello,

I'm just wondering, what is the reason for disabling "thanks" after a post is >365 days old? I want to thank someone for a post that has helped me out; even though the post is several years old, the info is still good and very helpful.

Thanks,
Bryan

Yeah,

That >356 days rule seems kinda arbitrary. I guess can see the point if the post is seven or eight years old, but two or three years old doesn't really *seem* outta line.

Why the cutoff?
