When I post messages while logged in on my Windows machine, I get a little Windows logo next to the penguin at the bottom of the banner on the left side.
When I'm logged in through Linux I get a Tux with a question mark on his belly. On a hunch, I changed my distro details in my profile from "Slackware64" to the less specific "Slackware". Now I get the penguin's head as a generic Linux indicator.
I see Debian, SuSE, Fedora, lots of Ubuntu, and even that cute Arch icon, along with the Windows and MacOS icons, but very few Slackware icons.
I would like to know how to get the Slackware icon to show up properly on my posts.
Turns out that the user agent is often sufficiently unique that it can be used to identify you.
I visited a site awhile back that informed me that my exact user agent string was only seen in something like one in two million browsers.
Given the strong desire by lots of companies and government entities to collect lots of information about individuals, I decided that was unacceptable. So I fiddled with my user agent settings and came up with a far more generic setting that is seen by something like one in 60,000 browsers. Still not unique, but much better.
Hence, this site no longer properly identifies my distro. A small price to pay, methinks.
Distribution: Debian, Red Hat, Slackware, Fedora, Ubuntu

The LQ Suggestions & Feedback is meant solely for Suggestions & Feedback. Please do not use this thread (or any thread in this forum) for testing (and keep in mind that every time you post a test, most of the members who have previously posted in that thread get an email). If you absolutely must test a feature that has been working as expected here for a very long time, there's a thread for that in General (one I presume nearly no one has email notification turned on for). Thank you.
