Who's here and who's not

I know there is a list at the bottom of the front page about members currently logged in,but I was wondering if it would be possible that we have some kind of notification or something about who has logged in and who has logged out of LQ in any moment.

To me that would be cool, informative and would help if and when someone is looking for someone.
For example,I've recived some private messages and then I was looking if that member is logged in every few minutes,so I thought that if we had this new system things would be a little better.

Thanks!

Hi,

You do know that there is an invisible option that one can use? If your suggestion would be implemented I do hope that the people that use this option are still invisible......

Can't you just patiently wait until the pm-ed user reacts (you will be mailed if that is the case and you did enable it)

I agree with wanting to stay invisible, but then again, checking your e-mail every few minutes for a whole day can be a little daunting.

If someone has allowed you to send them a PM, it would be nice if the system can notify only you when that person signs back in, similar to the way an IM network deciphers who gets notified when a user logs into their IM client.

Cheers

That would be a solution 'we' can live with

BTW: What is the difference:
1) looking if that member is logged in every few minutes,
2) checking your e-mail every few minutes,
3) checking if you are notified (every few minutes).

Seems the same to me, you end up checking 'something' every X time)

1) The member may be invisible, so you would basically be wasting your time.
2) You would need to leave LQ or open your e-mail client repeatedly.
3) Much easier, although I was actually thinking of a pop-up banner, so you would only need to be 'working' here at LQ.

Thank you for your thoughts and interest.

I agree, whoever wants to stay invisible,so be it.

Dragon is close to what I had in mind, something like a pop-up banner might be the best solution.
