When is a member online?

Hi:

If I place the mouse over the penguin's belly I can tell if a member is on line. Is this member online all the time he is logged in and off line when he has logged out? Thanks.

You're online until you log out or 900 seconds has passed since your last activity.

That's not true.... Users have the option to be invisible (first option), this includes penguin bellies

Thanks jeremy. Good to know that.

@druuna: So, the penguin tells whether a member is online but not whether he is off line. Does it? Good to know too.

No, if a member is invisible, the penguin will never have a question mark and mousing over it will give "$username is invisible".

For sure.
Case (a) Penguin has the question mark: john is online.
Case (b) Penguin has not the question mark: I can tell nothing.

I think I understood. Kind regards.

Not exactly. In the "Case (b) Penguin has not the question mark" the tooltip will always tell you if the member is invisible or if they are offline.

Mousing over druuna's penguin gives me "druuna is offline", though I know he's invisible because the last activity time is not shown on his profile.

Or can one hide his/her last activity time without being invisible?

Just when I thought I had it! I understand there are three cases and only three cases:

(i) tooltip= online
(ii) tooltip= off line
(iii) tooltip= invisible.

And in each of these cases the tooltip message is clear. But if what you say is true, Anisha Kaul, I think what we are needing is a flowchart.

Just for a trial, can you hide yourself and then post here, I'll see what I get on mousing on your penguin.

Hi,

You (stf92) are now shown as being off-line. Penguin is visible, no question mark on its belly, the same should be true for me. Anisha Kaul is shown as being on-line now (question mark is visible).

Thumbs up

In the screen-shot I see no question mark on the belly. But the tooltip for my penguin says offline. Am I visible then? My User Invisible/visible mode option is still set to 'Invisible'.

Anisha Kaul's and druuna penguins say 'online'.

Something comes out of this: while I still have the option checkbox checked, and therefore would expect to be invisible, druuna has not got a 'stf92 is invisible' tooltip message but the 'stf is offline now' message.
