Whats with the Microsoft ads??
 

I have just logged in to be presented with an ad for MS VISUAL STUDIO .NET - Whilst I completely understand the need for ads to generate revenue to host any site isn't a MS ad on a Linux site like selling out!!!

In the true open source mind you should not judge this matter. Advertising MS is just as advertising Linux. The main goal here is a freedom to make your own choice. The message we should be putting out is "Use linux or windows, we still respect you".

I respect your views 100% marghorp but I can't think open source and Microsoft... Microsoft do not fit into your views...
On the other hand I have NEVER seen a Linux ad on any Microsoft site....

My post was not about an individuals choice although I think that most members here do not like the way Microsoft operate...

I still am of the opinion the advertising Microsoft is selling out.... (sorry :( )

In closing, I'll say that unlike many sites we refuse many ads based on content. You'll never see a "get the facts" type ad here, despite the revenue that we lose. Denying ads for individual products is a slippery slope that I don't want to go down. One of the main advantages of Open Source is choice. Removing choice in all cases is bad. If Red Hat wanted to advertise on MSN and was not allowed to, everyone would scream. We refuse the "get the facts" ads because they contain information that is false and misleading. I wouldn't allow a Linux ad that was false or misleading either. If anyone wants further clarification on this, just let me know.
