What's the point of the "Relpy" link in My LQ?

In the list of unread threads on My LQ, each thread has a "Relpy" link under its name. I was wondering, what's the point of it? Why would you want to reply to a thread when you haven't even read the latest posts in it?

And I thought that it would be nice to have a link that takes you to the first unread post instead. It seems like that would me much more convenient and useful.

'Reply' has an option that 'quick reply' doesnt- 'preview post'. I actually use 'reply' pretty often, just so I can preview.

The 'reply' button is at the bottom of every page, sure. That doesnt mean that someobdy isnt going to read the whole thread. There isnt any way to 'make' people read the lastest posts, even if the 'reply' button was only on the last page.

I don't think you understand what I'm talking about, so see the attached image.

The downward facing blue arrow icon in your attached pic does just that.

Interesting question. I guess maybe it is technically complex to remove the "Reply" link from threads which contain new posts, but keep the "Reply" link for threads without new replies. That's just me guessing though.
