What one should do if there's no answers to his thread/post for a long time ?
 

Sad thread but i think it's worth answering...

you should assume that there is a reason there has been no response. This may be because there is no one who can answer, but often is because there is not significant information about the issue at hand, or is written in a confusing way. As such you might wish to re word your post, and provide more information about your problem. Also in that time i'm sure you've gone off and done more research and not just sat back and waitied for an answer. as such, tell us what you've tried since then wether it worked or not. even if it's not actually useful, it shows you're trying to help yourself and encourages others to help.

Some genius (naming no names) wrote a how to on asking questions. Check the section marked "What If No One Answers You?". It will provide you with the help you need. The how to can be found here.

I have also found times still where no one has been through what you might have and they have no answer. There are millions of different configs for hardware, then a million more with any os. Not everyone has tried every piece of hardware known to man.

also remember that this is a forum, and a "long time" is relative for everyone. this is not like irc, it is not live and you must remember that members live in different timezones and thus, it might be 2am their time when you are waiting for an answer 2pm your time.

Remember that no one is obligated to reply- we are all volunteers.

If your question is obscure or difficult, it could take several days or more for anyone to come across an answer. Use patience first, as the forum will automatically bump your thread a couple times. While you're waiting, continue to try to solve the problem yourself. After several days, bump your question with more information (what you've tried since you posted, etc.).

well, then the following conclusions can be arrived at:

1) it's just not possible.

2) it's a rare problem- not many people have dealt with it. (like specialised hardware)

3) it was a badly worded question

4) the question didn't include enough information

5) the problem is so old that it doesn't really matter anymore.

sure it's sad, especially if it is your problem. but really, the newer questions are in the here, now.

Bottom line?
Q: What one should do if there's no answer to a thread/post in a long time?
A: if you can, answer it. otherwise, nevermind.
Q: What if it's MY question?
A: go thru XavierP's howto and acid's checklist.
bump your thread with the stuff that you have tried, more info.

If you wait a year with out a reply and still havnt found the ans. you're self, you have some issues, and maby you try somethnig like bird watching or checkers.

Tha only stupid questions are the ones you DONT ask, you may not get a ans., and your prob. not the only one that the ans. could help. So please do try to find the ans. you're self and keep postiong diff things you tryed, Because you cant bake a cake with out breaking some egg's
