Rep:
uglyness and clutter
Hello,
The layout and the colors, plus all the adds and the clutter make this site rather ugly and unpleasant to use -- which makes me rather shirk this forum, though the content of course is very valuable.
Even" login in" is a tiny link which seems to want to go unheeded.
I think that in addition to a fuller description of the issue, a comparison would be a good idea. So, "LQ is so cluttered. Compare LQ with www.example.com and see how the site should be written." We can then discuss your complaint in a more directed fashion.
Hmmm ... words fail me. The OP must have a completely
different perception of what comprises clutter than me.
A few other boards that I came across via google searches
seem to spend about 20 to 30 percent of their sites visible
area on adds, and use huge default fonts which make the
usage quite unpleasant.

I agree! This site is a lot easier to look at then say, justlinux. It's simple, which makes the loading time faster, hardly any ads (and those have to be there to keep the site running). All in all a really cool site, with everything you need, and what it does not have can be mentioned in Website Suggestions & Feedback.
No Unhappiness here.
perhaps it is the hardware of our unfortunate member? I seem to remember LQ looked cruddy- but on my current box it is fine. The colours are muted - nice on the eyes. There is a lot of untrapped whitespace- (if you are into publishing, you know what I mean, elsewise, nevermind) the spaceing is nice.
Though I don't have any complaints, please don't feel like we are telling you to shut up. If there is a definite problem, jeremy et al need to know about it.
I am somewhat sick and tired of these kinds of posts. I once had my forum reviewed on another board and I blew my top when somebody totally trashed my hard work and wrote quite unpleasant things about it.
These kinds of posts evoke very negative reactions and for good reason.
The the OP: be very careful when doing this on other forums. You might just get flamed from pillar to post.
"Ugliness and clutter" doesn't mean a thing unless it is substantiated by some concrete positive suggestions. By not doing that, you are earning the ire of other people who visit this forum.
Believe me it does hurt somebody like me to see people criticize for the sake of criticism. Being a site owner myself, I know how tough it is to take it lying down when people post negative criticism of all your hard work without posting any concrete suggestions.
