Basically, once in a while when I come here to the forum, I open a number of tabs with threads, and they all keep loading for several minutes while displaying at the bottom of FF window:
"Transferring data from e1h7.simplecdn.net..." as seen here: http://img154.imagevenue.com/img.php..._122_552lo.jpg
What is the cause of this, and is there a fix, it's kinda annoying. It doesn't interfere too much with browsing, but there is a bit of extra sluggishness.
Yes,i'm getting the same.
Using Iceweasel(3.0.14) with Debian Testing amd64.
This has been happening all day today, and has happened previously as Texmex has said.

For the old-school fix you can just add an entry to your hosts file pointing to 127.0.0.1

Blocking our CDN will almost certainly break the site for you. Unfortunately, the "waiting for..." at the bottom of your browser is very often incorrect in which site it claims to be waiting for, which makes the issue difficult to debug. I got a similar message about e1h7.simplecdn.net earlier today, however further research indicated it was actually Google Analytics which was not responding quickly.
Well I got sick of this too. So I blocked this CDN as well - 1600 hits in under 5 minutes ... mmmm.
Lose some buttons and functionality, but the site still works for me - quicker.
And I doubt google-analytics is a holdup for me - that got blocked even faster.
I noticed that sometimes when even trying to access a post, or just navigate around LQ, the connection will timeout. Unless this problem is fixed on the CDN's/google analytics end, this might be more trouble than its worth for LQ, and perhaps it would be better for LQ to just drop it?

* Please do keep in mind that our end goal is to provide the very best LQ experience for as many members as possible. While we'd certainly never purposely give any particular member a worse experience, using a CDN should demonstrably provide a better experience for the vast majority. We'll look into an whether we can provide an alternative for the few members who seem to have issues with our CDN (and of course if it ends up that this CDN is not the best solution for the majority of users, we'll do what it take to switch CDN providers...again).
* A couple people have noticed a CDN slowdown over the last 24-36 hours. We'll see if there's a known issue on their end that's currently being worked on.
Interesting. Had to unblock the CDN during the week so I could use the "report" button. Ran o.k. for a while, then slowed down, so I blocked the CDN again. Ubuntu 9.04 with F/F
Just installed Fedora 12 - seems to run fine with no blocking; F/F 3.5.4 with no extra plugins (yet). Will see how it goes for a while.

I wonder if your plugins might be the culprit, or maybe a local server, or your ISP.
FWIW, I've only had a problem once with LQ~ a couple months ago while a website on a major NY-based server was under a massive DDoS attack. I'm currently running FF 3.0, FF3.5, and SeaMonkey (various systems), with no additional plugins. (never found a need for them.)
I'm in north-eastern MD, BTW- not that far from NY.
Cheers

As always, thanks for the feedback.

Jeremy,
Just out of interest were there any outstanding issues?.
It seems a number of us are still getting problems.

There were no reported outstanding issues. To further diagnose the issue, can anyone who's experiencing slowness post exactly where they are browsing from? Thanks.
