Thread tooltips

Hi. I have a suggestion to remove these tooltips which appear when you hover thread title or area around it. Because it makes reading titles harder, you need to watch your cursor to keep it away and what's the benefit?

I agree that they are annoying, but you can turn them off in your browser.

firefox/iceweasel -> about:config -> browser.chrome.toolbar_tips false
opera -> ctrl-12 -> Advanced -> browsing -> show tooltips

Other browsers must have similar options.

IMO, these tool tips are very helpful in preventing us from clicking the
thread to see its contents. I wish these tool tips would contain more than
just 2 lines.

Keep it. It is very useful. This site gets scores of new threads every day. Almost no one has the time and inclination to read every thread. This feature lets one get an idea of a thread's content, facilitating the decision making process about which threads one will look at during a visit. Without this feature, many threads will not be looked at by people pressed for time. (The factor of maximising limited resources.)

OK, you convinced me. :D But in this case I also prefer to see more than 2 lines of text. 10 will make more sense.

All of them but I don't need to turn them all. Somewhere they are useful.

Thanks for the feedback. We don't have any plans to removed the tooltips at this time. They are meant to be a summary, so we also have no plans to include more of the post at this time (which would have the potential to significantly increase the page size and load time for the forumhome pages).

I also depend on the tooltips for previewing threads and I've never felt that they get in the way. They only pop up for a few seconds, and only for as long as you hover on the link. Just train yourself to move the cursor to the side when reading.

One thing I'd like is for them to also appear on the main forum page.

BTW, changing the browser setting disables all tooltips globally. That's overkill if you still want to see them in other places. Perhaps someone could whip up a greasemonkey script or similar?
