Thanks Again to ASL
 
I am happy to announce that ASL has stepped up again and helped LinuxQuestions.org with the donation of another server. As you may remember the server that is serving LQ now was also donated by ASL. The new machine will be a database server while the current machine with become a dedicated web server. More details will follow as we plan for the migration.

Thanks again ASL!

I should also add. For those of you looking into buying hardware I highly recommend ASL. The machines have been of extremely high quality and the company in general has been fantastic. Visit http://www.aslab.com/ for more information. They now have servers, workstations and laptops.

I too am curious as to what the specs on both machines are, including motherboard/bios specs.

The new machine is a dual 2.4GHz Xeon with 2GB and 4 36G disks. I should be able to have a pic up after the new machine is in production.

If you search this forum, you should find a thread regarding the machine being used now that was donated and its specs.. . ;)

That's a nice piece of equipment you've got. Wich Linux Distro. will use?

The current site runs a highly modified [review]Red Hat[/review] RH 7.3 with the -lq kernel. We are looking into other options for the new machine.

FreeBSD... hmm.. LinuxQuestions runs BSD... maybe the day we get our www.bsdquestions.org on their own machine then run that one on BSD.. :p

Also, forgot myself to say a Big Thanks to ASL for their donations. When the time comes and I ever need to buy a rackmount server, I will definitely look in their direction first... :)

That would be like microsoft running Linux and Apache not a win2k server with IIS. :rolleyes:

oh... Hang on, up until a few years ago I think they did! :p

Ok ok.. Bad request from me :scratch: .. But how about the fact that when you to unixquestions.org you come to this site? Oh wait bsdquestions.org also comes to this site :confused: .. Is this a Unix forum? :Pengy: Isn't FreeBSD consider to be Unix? Like most people say "Real Unix" :o ... Plus we have a BSD forum here... Well you guys are the Guru's I'm still a :newbie: but I guess that running FreeBSD is out of the question is a no no :tisk:
